The most exciting fashion night of the year has come and gone and that means it’s time to critique the highly anticipated celebrity looks from the Met Gala. The glamour filled night honored Karl Lagerfeld who was a hugely successful designer. He designed for several luxury fashion houses including Chloe, Balmain, and Fendi. However, he is best known for serving as the creative director of Chanel for over 35 years. Lagerfeld can be accredited to putting together some of Chanel’s most iconic runway shows including the Autumn Winter 2017/18 runway show at Paris' historic landmark the Grand Palais, among many more.

Lagerfeld, however, held a reputation of controversy. Although he made waves in the fashion industry as a talented designer, he publicly made fatphobic, racist, and misogynistic comments. Many fashion lovers and loyal fans of the Met Gala opted to refrain from viewing this year due to the complicated theme. Met Gala coordinator, @raphlecia on Twitter, told Time Magazine, she didn’t want to glorify a legacy that she felt was tainted by harmful sentiments. Even celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Zendaya, and Blake Lively did not attend.

At the event, La La Anthony for Vogue, asked several popular celebrities including Sydney Sweeney and Madelyn Cline their thoughts on honoring the late designer. To which they replied with somewhat vague responses, refocusing the conversation on praising the other celebrities in attendance and The Met Gala in general.

Now let’s get into our favorite looks from the infamous event.
